So the are clearly distinguishable as stewards – If someone needs help or information then they can see who to go to. If not then problems wouldn't get sorted out.
So they look professional – Stewards have a status that makes them quite high up in regards to being in charge. They need to look professional so that they get respect of members of the public at the event.
Complaints – if someone has a complaint about the event or another steward then people need to know who to go to. They can see that they have status within the event and so can come to them.
